  1. Plan the Process: It is always advisable to plan the process which will include measuring the size of your roof which will make a lot of things clear pertaining to the number of shingles and other materials.
  2. Remove the old roof: Use of stripper is best for removing the old tar paper and shingles. Some chemicals can also be used for dissolving the sealant which will give a new freshness to your roof.
  3. Sheathing: It is the bottom of the roof. If you do not wish to opt for a new sheathing then simply you can re-nail them so that its durability is increased. Mark and cut out space for ventilation.
  4. Water Guard: Water guarding is very important for your roof and will avert leakages. Stick it on your roof with its adhesive side and be sure that no gaps are left in the sealant.
  5. Underlayment: Tar paper is used for underlayment. It is installed with roofing nails or staple gun. Staple guns will act quickly and you will finish your work early but it is not as strong as roofing nails. The entire roof should be covered with the underlayment.
  6. Flashing: Flashing also supports the roof from leakages. It is applied on the rising part of your roof, in corners and around the bottom of the Chimney.
  7. Shingles: All the shingles are to be placed, overlaying them leading towards the top of the roof by nailing them. Systematically laying them row by row and getting up with each row.
