A Practical Exterior Refresh, Completed in Phases
This Washington Township homeowner first reached out because their roof was 29 years old.
There were no major issues at the time, but they knew it was time to replace it before problems started.
We began with the roof in 2025, then returned this year to complete the next phase of the exterior: siding repairs, new gutters, and a new rear entry door.
Replacing an Aging Roof Before It Became a Problem
For the roofing portion of the project, we installed GAF Ultra HDZ shingles in Weathered Wood.
The color gave the home a dimensional, finished look while replacing an older roof that had reached the end of its service life.
Taking care of the roof first gave the homeowner peace of mind and set the stage for the rest of the exterior updates.
Blending New Siding With the Existing Home
The home had cedar siding, and over the years, some areas had started to deteriorate.
Rather than replacing everything unnecessarily, the homeowner wanted to address the sections that needed attention while keeping the overall look of the home intact.
We installed James Hardie HardiePlank Cedarmill siding, primed so it could be painted to match the existing exterior.
After installation, the homeowner had the siding painted in Edamame, helping the new material blend naturally with the rest of the home.
We also removed and reinstalled the shutters so they could be painted as part of the overall refresh.
New Gutters and Rear Entry Door
To finish the exterior, we installed new white 6-inch K-style gutters with 3×4-inch leaders around the entire home.
The larger gutter system gives the home a clean, finished edge while helping manage roof runoff more effectively.
At the rear of the house, we also installed a ProVia Legacy steel entry door with half glass, giving the back entry a cleaner and more updated look.
Final Outcome
This project is a great example of how exterior work can be completed thoughtfully over time.
By starting with the roof and later moving into siding, gutters, shutters, and the rear door, the homeowner was able to improve the home’s protection, appearance, and function without losing its original character.
The finished result is clean, coordinated, and built around smart material choices that fit the home.
